In plain words
Embodiments of Prema! For the past month I have not appeared before you. What is the reason for this? This is not My taking on someone else's suffering; nor is it something born in this body. Today I am making the true facts known to you.
The body is of the five elements; the body must fall at some time; the indweller is free of every ailment; consider: for the indweller, death and birth and the marks of the bonds that delusion ties do not exist; see the truth: that indweller is the God of gods; consider it in your mind: He is of the form of the Ātma!
You know that Swami's hip broke into three pieces. The ball by the hip broke into two pieces as well. There is no describing how severe the pain from this is. There is no moving, no stirring. It keeps striking like a shock. But I paid it no heed. I went through all these troubles for the sake of teaching you, ‘Put away attachment to the body and develop attachment to the Ātma.’ I am not this body. You too, when you put away attachment to the body, can enjoy happiness and Śānti always. So long as you do not give up attachment to the body, you will have to go through many hardships. What is this body? It is made of the five elements.
A hovel of filth, a servant's basket wasting away with diseases, set stirring from its birth, a tuber; a thornbush that cannot cross the sea of worldly life; a quiver of arrows: rise and see! However much we may prize it, this body as steady, do not trust it, O mind! Take refuge at the feet of Hari!
When you develop attachment to God, attachment to the body will not cause you the least pain. Curbing attachment to the body is precisely the first step in spiritual sādhana. You fall into many hardships only because you develop attachment to the body. As attachment to the body grows, attachment to the Ātma dwindles.
