In plain words
This is the inner meaning of the Navarātri! What will we gain by doing which work? What will come to us through which action? Such a power of inquiry is most necessary. The Buddhi that has this power of inquiry is of great importance to man. Like the current flowing in a wire, the Buddhi enters into all the qualities of a person. So every human being must practise Dharma. Without performing action we cannot gain its result. But whether we do good or do bad, we have to go through the result of both! Even the five Pāṇḍavas went through the fruit of their karma. Even Sītā could not escape going through the fruit of karma. So when we perform sacred actions, actions that help others, we can gain all powers; we can receive Lakṣmī's grace.
The oneness of Satya and Dharma is Sathyanarayana
Since Nārāyaṇa is eternal, Lakṣmī, wishing that she too should be eternal, settled on Nārāyaṇa's breast and has gone on giving her grace to all. Viṣṇu Himself took on the form of Nārāyaṇa. Nārāyaṇa does not mean Lakṣmī Nārāyaṇa; it means Sathyanarayana. This Sathyanarayana moves among ordinary people, scattering smiles, talking with everyone, going about happily. To look at, He is an ordinary man! He seems like one who knows nothing. But His powers are matchless; they cannot be described as like this or like that. For this Sathyanarayana, Satya alone is supreme. Wherever He goes, He keeps teaching Satya. Satya is no ordinary thing.
From Satya everything was created, in Satya all creation is absorbed; what place is there, search as you may, without the glory of Satya? This itself is pure sattva, see!
