In plain words
These saṅkalpas have something called an infectious disease. This disease lies wrapped around saṅkalpas. If we have kept company with people who have wicked feelings, those wicked feelings come to us too. If we keep company with a man in a rage, that rage will rise in us too. A small example. You lose your temper with someone. Then he too gets angry with you. He hits you. Now what is the cause of his anger? Your own anger brought on his anger. So this is the infectious disease. That is why we must not join bad company at all. Now, Einstein too has said it. Tell me your company I shall tell you what you are. If we want to tell who we are, we must enquire well into our company. So we must join good company. It is just this:
Satsaṅgatve nissaṅgatvaṃ nissaṅgatve nirmohatvaṃ nirmohatve niścalatatvaṃ niścalatatve jīvanmuktiḥ.
It is through satsaṅga alone that good saṅkalpas arise in us.
Students! Foster sacred saṅkalpas, and with sacred feelings make your lives worth living. Give others an ideal life. For the sake of passing pleasure and happiness we must not foster bad saṅkalpas, bad feelings and bad deeds. They may give you pleasure, happiness and results for the moment, but beyond that, ten times, a hundred times the danger comes upon us. So enquire first. Believe the truth that everything has its Reaction, resound, reflection. For all the work you do, it gives you its fruit. 'With whatever seeds you sowed you stand here; those very fruits keep coming to you.'
When you were born from your mother's womb, no necklaces of any kind were to be seen; not a single string of fine pearls, no chain of pure gold round the neck, no garlands of rubies shining bright, no emeralds or rubies are set; no garlands of diamonds gleaming, no gomedhika stones are with you either. There is, there is a single garland round your neck: of all that you have done, counting each one, good or bad, without cutting off one, Brahmā gives you a heavy garland and sends you forth, the necklace made of all your karmas.
