In plain words
Whatever work you are doing, you must watch whether it is pleasing to Swami or not. One must try to satisfy God. I have spoken chiefly of three feelings. Daivaprīti, pāpabhīti, saṅghanīti. If you want love of God in you, what must you do? Whatever work you are doing: is this dear to God or not? If you do the work thinking, “Will He be pleased with this or not?”, it will surely be dear to God. As that love of God grows in you, a great fear of sin is born in you; it arises. You will not take a single step towards doing sin. Because your heart is filled with Prema. So fear of sin surely arises. Through the oneness of these two comes morality in society, honour in society. You can receive honour from society. This is the right path for you. First of all one must cultivate love of God. If one cultivates love of God, fear of sin comes naturally. What is the cause of so many hardships, sorrows and pains in the world today?
Through a coarseness that has no fear of sin, through what has no love of God, humanness has sunk low in human beings: this is the upheaval in the peace of the world.
This is the root cause of upheaval coming upon all peace today. So man must cultivate both fear of sin and love of God. You will gain all the honour you need in society. Without the two, if you want society to honour you, no society will honour you. If you are good, even the cattle will honour you. When Kṛṣṇa played on the flute, the cattle, it is said, would leave their grazing and listen joyfully to that music. There is such sweetness in that music. Music does not come merely from blowing a flute. How did that music come? This flute music came sharing the joy of the cowherd boys and the joy of the cattle.
