Passage 3

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

‘Cittasya śuddhaye karmaḥ.’ Even though the body becomes pure through this karma, we must make the mind pure through control of the senses. We must set these ten senses on a sacred path. Where there is impurity, where there is uncleanness, with such a thing we cannot make ourselves pure. The eyes are very important.

See no evil - See what is good Hear no evil - Hear what is good Talk no evil - Talk what is good Think no evil - Think what is good Do no evil - Do what is good This is the way to God.

To make the senses pure in this way, we must set them in pure deeds, these senses. The master of the senses is the mind. So if we are to make this master pure, the senses must be pure.

Make Speech Pure

Next, how are we to make speech pure? We must make it pure by speaking Satya. We must make it pure by deeds of Dharma. We must make it pure by the principle of Prema. By these four paths, Dharma, Satya, Prema and Śānti, we must make our speech pure. The moment the body is born to man, what comes along with it is aham. This aham itself is the form of the Ātma. Born of the Ātma is this aham. So aham is the Ātma's son. Born of aham is the mind of man. So this mind is the grandson of the Ātma. Born of this mind is speech. This speech is the great grand son of the Ātma. The son of the Ātma is aham. The son of aham is the mind. The son of the mind is speech. So aham, the Ātma, the mind and speech, all these are one single family. We must make firm the faith that our speech belongs to the family of God. We must make firm the faith that our mind is the grandson of God.
