Passage 5

In plain words

When your sight is bad, you see what is bad. When your mind is good, everything appears good. If we leave aside these two, Satya and Prema, whatever we enter into, we see nothing there but differences.

If you want the satisfaction of the Ātma, you must feel that all is one

Students, embodiments of Prema! You studied here, went far away, travelled to many countries, and have now come back here and remember Swami in this way: this is truly your good fortune! Prema alone is the cause of all this. Otherwise, would it be possible for you to spend so much, go through so much hardship, and come here with your families? What good fortune this is! You must recognise this truth and act on it. You studied in Brindavan, you studied in Prasanthi Nilayam. Wherever you go, if someone asks you, “Where have you come from?”, you say, “We have come from Prasanthi Nilayam”, “We have come from Brindavan.” But that is only something you say for your own satisfaction; in truth Prasanthi Nilayam is within you, Brindavan is within you. Everything is within you. If you want the satisfaction of the Ātma, you must feel that all is one.

The religions are many, but the path is one; the clothes differ, but the cloth is one; the ornaments are many, but the gold is one.

What is worn on the ears they called ‘earrings’, what is worn on the arms they called ‘bangles’, what is worn round the neck they called a ‘chain’. But the gold is one, is it not! In the same way, “The colours of the cattle differ, but the milk is one.” One cow may be white, another cow may be black. But the milk is always white! In the same way, though all human beings are different, the Ānanda they experience in the heart is one! That Ānanda is what we should long for; we should not hold on to personal differences at all. These differences come and go for a time.
