Passage 3

In plain words

Ornaments differ, the gold is one; the colours of the cattle differ, the milk is one; the species of living beings differ, the jīva is one; castes and their codes differ, birth is one.

Look, how many bulbs are shining here! Though the bulbs look different, the current is one! All these bodies are like bulbs. Each bulb may have a ‘power’ of its own. Likewise, though all human beings are one, there is a difference in ‘power’. But the Ātma in all is one! To show you this oneness would give me great joy. But I have received some lakhs of letters: “Swami! Do not bring forth the liṅga,” is what they say. Many doctors too are saying, ‘This is not good.’ The gold in the body is in liquid form in the blood. For it to take on solid form, a great deal of ‘energy’ has to be used. For this the body must also have the strength. Each liṅga weighs a great deal. “It is not good for You to spend ‘energy’ in this way to bring them forth. Let those who believe, believe; let those who do not believe, not believe. Only do not put Your body to too much strain. Your body is most important to us. Relying on Your body, we have come close to You. If You weaken Your body, it gives us great pain. So be gracious to us, and restrain this power to some extent,” they prayed. This body rests on the ‘positive’. If the ‘positive’ goes, the ‘negative’ is wasted. Yet God can achieve anything by His will. He can turn the sky into earth and the earth into sky. But what purpose would that serve? If He turns the sky into earth and the earth into sky, what becomes of the sādhakas after that! “You must not use Your power in this way to satisfy people, to please people,” the devotees plead. Already this body is 81 years old.
