In plain words
The ornaments differ, the gold is one; the colours of the cattle differ, the milk is one; the kinds of living beings differ, the jīva is one; the kinds of flowers differ, the worship is one; the schools of vision differ, God is one. Unable to know this, men have lost their wits, and for the sake of living have become bound in many bonds. What more than this shall I make known, students, gentle and counted among the virtuous!
What is the difference? This is worship with jasmine. This is worship with roses. This is worship with chrysanthemums. This is worship with campaka: is worship a separate thing like that? Worship is one! The flowers may be different. To live in this life of the world, people have kept on setting up so many kinds of differences. All differences are marks of pravṛtti! Marks of the world! Marks of the physical! Marks that last a moment! But the goal that is true, eternal and full of immortality is one alone: the principle of the Ātma. In human nature, divinity is present in all equally. But to some, according to the light of their Buddhi, it looks small, or large.
The universe is in us
Our Buddhi is like a mirror made of earth. In this mirror the sun, the moon and the stars, many crores of miles away, can be seen. Hold a small mirror in your hand and turn it towards the sun: the reflection of the sun appears in the mirror. The circumference of that sun is many thousands of miles. So big a sun appears in so small a mirror. Dakṣiṇāmūrti spoke of this very thing: ‘Viśvaṃdarpaṇa dṛśyamāna nagarī.’ Within the small mirror called our Buddhi itself, the whole universe is contained.
