In plain words
Individuals may differ, forms and names may differ, but the principle of the Ātma in everyone is one. We must try to recognise the principle of the one Ātma in every matter.
The ornaments differ, the gold is one; the colours of the cattle differ, the milk is one; living creatures differ, the jīva is one; the kinds of flowers differ, the worship is one.
We must see oneness in all things. When we recognise this oneness, we become able to recognise the full principle of Prema. We must fill our heart to the brim with nothing but Prema. Merely filling the heart with impure feelings and acting a show of Prema on the surface, we become people who have betrayed ourselves.
A person who has Prema does not let go of this principle of Prema in the least, in any place, in any circumstance, in any action. Many students live in great purity and with pure Prema as long as they stay in the hostel and while they study in the Institute. When they go out and enter the world, they keep saying that their mind is changing in many ways through the faults of company, through those around them, through certain events. This is not a right answer. Truly, when there is pure, steady, selfless Prema in your heart, it cannot change, wherever you go. No company of any kind can change you. A fine example of this: There is a sheet of paper. On the paper we have drawn a flowering creeper. Within that creeper we show many flowers, as if they were there. But however hard the wind blows outside, the paper flutters, yet the creeper drawn on it does not stir in the least. In the same way, though your mind may waver a little this way and that through the faults of company, the heart, for its part, stays steady. No one can change the principle of Prema in your heart. Prema is not to be filled into the mind. We must fill it into the heart. The mind is merely a form made up of resolves.
