In plain words
But Hero becomes zero if he forgets GOD. All these stay for the moment and run off; but you must not let go of that supreme principle. If you get the chance, you must try to go very close to God. This is man's chief sādhana. Only then does humanness become meaningful. ‘Jantūnāṃ narajanma durlabham’: is humanness only this much, eating, drinking, sleeping? The beasts, birds and animals do all these too. What is the difference between them and us? What is special in man? What sacredness is there? It is all the same! If you put the question, What is the purpose of life, is it this: khānā, pīnā, sōnā, marnā? These four things happen to all. They come to ants, to snakes, to mosquitoes. If you too fall into that same plight, what goodness is there in you? What is the worth in humanness? You must rise to a level higher than all. That is what the Veda said: ‘Ūrdhvamūlaṃ adhaḥśākha’. You must come near to God's Prema. You must become fit for God's grace. You must experience the Ānanda of God. There is nothing beyond this Ānanda.
We must attain Vairāgya as far as we can
In deserts barren of Prema, so that shoots of Prema may grow, with the fervour of Prema, a rain of the nectar of Prema may pour down and rivers of Prema flow, will You not play the flute, Kṛṣṇa, will You not sing!
It is not planting just any trees. You must not plant thorn trees or babul trees. You must plant there the tree of Prema alone. Drops of Prema must come. How are You singing? The song of the flute. What is that flute? A flute with nine holes. The body has nine holes. Take the body itself as the flute. But this flute called the body has become filled with stuff called desires. That is why the notes do not come. When you make it all hollow, when you give up illusions, it becomes hollow.
