In plain words

Fill the heart with the feeling of God

Human birth is hard to come by. Man is no ordinary being: he is steadfast, heroic and profound, one endowed with very great strength. When he fills his heart with the feeling of God, he can achieve any great deed whatever. Hanumān, renowned as calm, virtuous and strong, went on remembering the Name of Rāma without a break. It was by the divine glory of the Name of Rāma, by that Bhakti, by that Prema, that he could cross so vast an ocean. The culture of Bhārata teaches nine paths of Bhakti.

Hearing, singing, remembering Viṣṇu, serving His feet, salutation, worship, service, friendship, the offering of the self.

Only after friendship has come about does the offering of the self become possible. So long as we have not made friends with God, we can practise self-surrender only in words, not in deed. Feeling is far more powerful than deed. So you must foster noble feelings in the heart. Students! Whether here or anywhere else, you must lead your life in the divine feeling that ‘the whole world is filled with Viṣṇu’, that ‘all this is indeed Brahman’. Divinity is not somewhere apart. It stays in your home, behind you, beside you, in your eyes, and guards you as the eyelid guards the eye. Why do you forget so divine, so splendid a power? It is not enough just to get good marks in your examinations. You must see that you get no bad remarks. Since you have taken a human body, you must foster human values. But you are losing human values. Because of that you are becoming utterly weak. Today many young men wander from country to country for the sake of study, for the sake of money, and go through many hardships. True riches and enjoyments are in our own heart, not outside. So you must turn the mind inward and attain human values. For true values you must enter the depths of the heart.
