In plain words
If it is loading and unloading whenever you look, you will end up like a pakoḍā. First of all, you must take part in service. Only when you do service does divine Ānanda arise. Where is Ānanda? It lies only with God Himself. Except with God, we find Ānanda nowhere. The man with dual mind is half blind. We must not make our effort in this twofold way. Happiness is union with God. Not dog. We must make friendship with God alone. Only after friendship does sacrifice come.
There Are Nine Kinds of Path to Friendship
Hearing, singing, remembering Viṣṇu, serving His feet, salutation, worship, servitude, friendship, ātmanivedana.
Only after friendship comes ātmanivedana. So there must be friendship with God. Only after that does ātmanivedana come. There is no friendship with God. Friendship is with bad company. Friendship with the wicked. With friendship like this, how can divinity come? There is only one heart. Revere the mother as God, revere the father as God, revere the teacher as God: if they are all deities, where is the place of the mother-deity? In the home. The mother-deity lives in the home. Revere the father as God: he stays right there in the home. Revere the teacher as God: he stays in the āśram. But in the heart, the place is for God alone. God is the dweller in the heart. In the heart we must give a place to God only. Worship your father, your mother and your guru, and honour them. There is nothing wrong in that, but they have no place in the heart. The reason is that they are only beings with bodies. They are only people born in this way. If you keep God in the heart: if you fill the tank with good water, only good water comes from the tap. If you fill up the tank with bad water, bad water comes from the tap. Fill your heart with the sacred Prema of the Paramātma. Whatever work you do, whatever word you speak, whatever matter you hear, only thoughts of the Paramātma will keep coming. First of all, you must pray to God in the heart.
