In plain words
So only when a man works in the office fully, night and day, do they give him his monthly salary. After he retires they give him a pension. Part-time workers and part-time devotees do not get full payment. Not only no payment, no pension either. That is, for one who is there with a full heart, the grace of God too will be complete.
Entering the ninefold path and bringing any one path of it to completeness is the chief true principle of the sādhaka. What are these ninefold paths?
Śravaṇaṃ kīrtanaṃ viṣṇoḥsmaraṇaṃ pādasevanam arcanaṃ vandanaṃ dāsyaṃ sakhyamātmanivedanam.
Friendship is very necessary. What kind of friendship? The friendship of today's Kali age? There is money in the pocket. The father has power. Hundreds come and gather round: ‘Hello, hello.’ No money in the pocket, the father's power is gone, he has retired. To such people no one comes near even to say ‘Goodbye’. Are such friends friends? These are only passing ties. Friendship bound up with physical and worldly desires is not a friendship that is ever true and lasting, staying with you, at home, at your side, and protecting you. The friend who stays at home, on the way, at your side, before your eyes, and looks after you, is God alone. So we must make friends with that God. Every kind of suffering can be ended. When this friendship is made, the two become one. That is why Jesus too, when he first entered society: ‘I am the messenger of God,’ he said. That is: there is no relation of any kind between that God and me. I only carry out His command. But after finding the way to go near Him and doing sādhana, he found it. ‘I am the son of God’: there is a relation between Him and me. He is the father, I am the son. So he said. After that he said, ‘I and my father are one.’ We too, in the state of Prakṛti, are all messengers. Every individual must proclaim divinity, truth and the principle of Prema in the world. Our Bhārata rests on spirituality.
Embodiments of Prema! You must recognise this well. If the spiritual perishes in Bhārata, Bhārata itself will decline. If Bhārata perishes, the world itself will become empty. So the whole world depends on Bhārata. So we must recognise well the special greatness of this Bhārata. You must proclaim this spirituality in every street. It is because spirituality is forgotten today that so much unrest is spreading around us. Prema in us has become empty. Humanness itself has perished. We look like human beings in form, but in practice there is no humanness at all. When will you become a human being? When you keep a good mind, a complete mind, you will become a human being. So he alone is a mānava who is born from such a mind.
Teachers! Keeping one's word of truth. Hariścandra tried to uphold truth even by giving up his wife and child. Though such very pure people were children of Bhārata, today we cannot follow them, cannot take them as our ideal, cannot carry out their command, and we have become nothing but weaklings of a kind. As Bal Vikas teachers, you must teach the children well the principle of our ancient great souls, the principle of the great ṛṣis, the principle of chaste wives, the principle of those devoted to truth. Devotion to parents. How did Śravaṇa Kumāra do it? It is no use merely taking the name Śravaṇa Kumāra. One must be one who honours his parents. Only when he sacrifices his selfishness and is a son who gives well-being to his parents' life is he a good son.
If in a family there is one virtuous man, the family shines by his virtue, as when there is sandalwood in a forest that shines.
If there is a single jasmine plant in a forest, the fragrance of that flower spreads everywhere. So Śravaṇa Kumāra taught the world devotion to parents. We must teach our children that principle of Śravaṇa Kumāra. In devotion to the guru: Ekalavya. For the welfare of society, for the good of the world, one must give up anything. Devotion to God: Prahlāda. In any circumstances whatever:
