In plain words

In the land of Bhārata the bond of guru and disciple has died away; the wealth of Satya and ordered living have dwindled; delight in Bhakti and faith has gone; and the craving for freedom without responsibilities has grown.

In the supremely holy land of Bhārata forbearance itself is our beauty; of all the vows, the one that shines brightest, a lofty character of Satya itself, is the hard tapas; if you ask what is the sweetest feeling in our land, what is more honoured than the feeling for a mother? Honour itself is greater even than life, says the moral code of our land; consigning it to the flames, they have sought out the codes of foreign lands and given to our day, in haste, the strange drawn sword called freedom. Alas! What shall I say of the rule of Bhārata? Just as the elephant does not know its own strength, so have the people of Bhārata become today.
