Passage 7

In plain words

He did not just go on telling stories; he did not expound the matter of books; he spoke taking his own experience in daily life as his ground. So his lecture drew everyone. Even today there are many noble souls like Vidyasagar in Bhārata. Bhārata is very sacred.

In the supremely holy land of Bhārata, forbearance itself is our beauty; the one that has won lustre among all vows, great truthfulness, is itself the stern tapas; if one asks what is the sweet feeling in our land, what is more honoured than the feeling for a mother? Honour alone is greater than life: so says our country's code; they have set it on fire, and, seeking out the codes of foreign lands, have handed today in haste a strange freedom, a drawn sword. Alas! What shall I say of the rule of Bhārata? As the elephant does not know its own strength, so have the people of Bhārata become today!

How sacred is this Bhārata! If such a country is suffering hardships today, what is the reason? The reason is just this: the people of Bhārata themselves cannot rightly understand the culture of Bhārata, and do not put it into practice. Students! Girl students! Reflect for once on the history of our sacred Bhārata and on its spiritual wealth. Even if you cannot help everyone, help at least a few and find joy in it.
