Passage 1

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

In the supremely sacred land of Bhārata, forbearance itself is our beauty; shining brightest among all the vows, a noble life of Satya is itself severe tapas; if you ask what feeling is sweetest in our land, what is worthier of honour than the feeling for the mother? The code of our land, which holds honour itself greater than life, they have thrown into the fire, and, seeking out foreign codes, they have handed to the present day, in haste, the naked sword called strange freedom. Ah! What shall I say of the rule of Bhārata? As the elephant does not know its own strength, so have the people of Bhārata become today.

Embodiments of Prema! Man today no longer knows what forbearance is: ‘In the supremely sacred land of Bhārata, forbearance itself is our beauty.’ Man is unable to recognise this Satya. Where he himself ought to show forbearance and sympathy towards the afflicted and the disabled, he despises them. A man without forbearance is no man at all. Truly, for us people of Bhārata, forbearance is a mantra of great worth.
