Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

The body is of the five elements; the body must fall, one day or another; the indweller is free of every ill; weigh it well: for the indweller, death and birth, the marks of delusion's bonds and fetters, there are none; seen truly, that indweller is the God of gods; weigh it in your mind: He is the Ātma in form!

So the God of gods is right within you. Then where are you going to do pūjā? Whom are you worshipping? You are worshipping none but yourselves. If you honour anyone, you honour none but yourselves. If you insult anyone, you insult none but yourselves. There is no gain in worshipping a God we cannot see while we hurt the beings our eyes can see. Each and every human being in front of you is God! That is why our ancient ṛṣis said, ‘Daivaṃ mānuṣarūpeṇa’. There is no use in ignoring God who stands before you in visible form and worshipping idols and figures at one remove. Regard every person as God. Greet even the one who hates you with Prema, saying ‘Hello brother’. Then he too will drop his hatred and say ‘Hello brother’. If you start abusing him, he too will start abusing you.

Give respect and receive respect

When you do not respect others, how are others to respect you? So respect every person. Then your own honour too will grow. Man today expects the other person to respect him, but he himself does not respect the other person. Mānava means one worthy of respect. You were born as human beings, so give respect and receive respect. This is what you must learn today. When we speak good words, the other person too speaks only good words to us. When we greet someone respectfully, the other person too greets us respectfully. When you bow to someone, to whom does that salutation belong? It reaches God, who dwells in the heart of that person.
