In plain words
Prema need not be called specially; it comes of its own accord.
Students! There is Prema in all of you. Do not turn that Prema into worldly love. Fix it on the embodiment of the Ātma. Spiritual Prema alone is true Prema. What relates to matter is worldly love. It changes. Prema related to the Ātma alone is lasting. “Brahman is of the form of Prema, made of Prema.” Prema itself bears the name Brahman. Your in-breath and out-breath move, saying ‘So...haṃ, so...haṃ...’, and for this too Prema alone is the cause. ‘Sohaṃ’ means ‘That am I.’ That itself is Prema. It is not present in one and absent in another. Prema is in all. Without Prema there is no life at all. So recognise the truth: I and you are one. Give no room to difference. Only because one thinks, ‘You are different, I am different’, does Prema too fall apart. The heart is one. It is not something that changes from moment to moment. Even if you change your words, the heart does not change. That is why the Gopīs said:
“Whatever heart You gave me, O Lord, that very heart I offer back to You, O glorious One; truly, what else could I bring for Your worship? I join my palms: take it, Lord.”
You must offer your heart to God as the fruit of Prema. It is God's property, not your property. Not one thing in this world is your property. Physical properties are not lasting. “Having come to this passing, joyless world, worship Me,” said the Teacher of the Gītā. Divine Prema alone is lasting. Even if you change, it does not change. Wherever you set a compass, its needle points to the north. In the same way, whatever the circumstances, your Prema must flow towards God alone. Only when there is Compassion in you can it be said that yours is Mankind. Live as human beings. Offer your whole life to Prema itself. That alone is your task! Some think, “How should I pray to God?” But there is no need even to pray. You must offer your Prema to God. My Prema is yours. Your Prema is Mine. You and I are one. There is no second thing at all.
Embodiments of the divine Ātma! You have taken on a body, but you do not understand the nature of the body in the least. The body is made of the five elements and is bound to the senses.
The body is formed of the five elements; the body must fall one day for certain; the indweller is free of every ill; reckon it: for the indweller, death and birth, the stamp of the fetters that delusion binds, do not exist; look at the truth: that indweller is the God of gods; reckon it in your mind: He is of the form of the Ātma!
You are not the body made of the five elements and bound with the guṇas. You say, ‘This is my head, this is my hand, this is my heart’, do you not! Then ask yourself, ‘Who am I?’ When you put this question to yourself, it becomes clear that the head, the hand, the heart and all the other limbs are apart from you. The body is made up of limbs. You are not embodiments of the body. God moves in every limb of the body as rasa. That is why they praise God as ‘Aṅgīrasāya namaḥ’. To confine the Paramātma, who is rasa, to one form is ignorance. God does not fall into the hands of such people. You must keep in mind the formless principle that is rasa. Physical form is bound to change! Today a boy... tomorrow a youth... the day after, an old man. In this way the body keeps on changing. But you never change. You are the embodiment of God. If you recognise this truth, physical changes cannot touch you in the least.
